Mark “Eddy” McGuire vividly remembers entertaining his first grade
class during a school field trip to the circus. Whenever there was a
lull in the action, the young class clown would fill the void. The
experience stuck with him. By the time he was 19 years old he was
performing in the center ring of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's
"Greatest Show on Earth". He went on to appear, sans greasepaint,
in comedy clubs, concert openings, casinos, commercials and films.
He has since directed numerous shows for casinos, performing arts
festivals and conventions everywhere from Las Vegas to China. He
was well known as an entertainment executive at the "Circus Circus"
hotel-casinos for 13 years before founding GlobalShows in 2003.
Chinese acrobats have figured prominently in McGuire's shows for
years. As the lone American member of an elite international jury, he
is invited to China bi-annually to judge their prestigious international
circus competitions. His interest in Chinese culture has culminated in
this production of "JUNGUA: Descendents of the Dragon".
In addition to the creation, direction and administration of the show,
he heads up the touring company and personally orchestrates each
performance by calling the shots from behind the scenes. While
"calling the cues" he also triggers 35 separate sections of recorded
music to coincide perfectly with the action. As if that weren't enough,
at the same time he scribbles a steady stream of notes in order to
make the next show even better! He can be seen before and after
each performance, running between the stage and the control booth
with a notebook and a grin. He is proud and delighted to share each
"ooo", "ahh" and standing ovation with this wonderful cast.
